gardener of eden

As Daniel Ost's floral visions prove, art comes in all forms. The Belgian bloembinder, or "flower binder," transcends the average notions of your run-of-the-mill florist. Claiming to have a special connection to all things floral, Ost channels his passion and gift for flowers into beautifully crafted sculptures and breathtaking installations.

His love affair started at the tender age of three, after falling into a pit of manure while trying to pick flowers (a near death experience) in a field near his grandfather's house. His seemingly innate fascination with nature's gems quickly grew into an amazing creative outlet, despite the initial malaise of his family.

With steadfast determination, this petal pusher has made a beautiful art out of this unlikely medium. His work is world renown and has graced all different arenas- stemming from catwalks to gardens. Although the bulk of his work is focused on smaller scale designs and arrangements, there is something to be said about his avant garde sensibilities. Ost's work is truly dazzling; his dedication and determination give me hope and his work is simply inspiring.
