good-buy Louis!

This could be sad news, depending on your alliances/ moral compass but a French court recently ordered eBay to give 38.6 million euros, in damages, to Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. LV pressed charges because since its inception, eBay has allowed sellers to promote fake LV products; LV alleges that almost 90% of their products that are sold on eBay are counterfeits.

This is not the first time that eBay has been charged with not doing enough to prevent the sale of counterfeits- for years the site has tried to boost it's security measures and has asked that companies concerned about the issue use their own resources to look for examples of counterfeiting on eBay's website. Designers are not buying it. In fact Tiffany & Co. is also engaged in lawsuit with LV over counterfeiting; the case has been ongoing since 2004. eBay is already set to appeal the French court's decision but whatever the verdict, eBay will definitely be taking some precautionary steps to protect themselves in the future.
